I'm not a puppy anymore!

My Sweet Juliet is defintly NOT a puppy anymore! Look at this before and after photo of my sweet girl in front her her Lily of the Nile plant (one of her favorites to pose with ;D)

A couple days before her one year birthday, Juliet began showing signs of coming into heat.  A few days after she was spotting all over the place.  I had already scheduled her spay appointment (for July 15th, it has since been pushed back to August 5th to give her body time to heal and shrink back to size before the surgery).
Back to her heat cycle though.

I did a lot of research (standard, because I google EVERYTHING).  I knew that I was going to keep her completely isolated for the whole 28 days ... I do not want to become a grandma at 26!

The first 10 days were pretty standard, she bleed spots of bright red blood.  On day 5 her vulva swelled up very large (it is still not as small as it was before).  I would post a picture, but it was very graphic, and I am not sure Juliet would appreciate it on the internet.
Juliet did a good job of keeping herself clean, through I was picking up blood spots around the house (luckily we have hardwoods).
Days 10-17 I did not notice any discharge OR scent.  This is when I found out dogs are most fertile.  I kept a close eye on her at ALL times :)
Days 17-23 I thought that the discharge was over, but it came back and for these days it was dark red/brownish in color and very viscous.  It was not coming in the same quantity as the first weeks bleeding and initially I was alarmed because most of the websites I found only talked about bleeding at the beginning on a dog's season NOT at the end.  I ended up calling my vet who assured me that it was normal.

All in all it was quite easy to manage, she didn't seems too wound up because of the lack of exercise. She is pretty clingy by nature and I didn't really notice any difference with that.

Mom got some fancy new wall beakers.....so she made me pose with them!

Juliet with her best cat friend Denver....too bad he doesn't feel the same way!!!!!!

Juliet watching the FIFA World Cup....rooting for USA of course!
